Dear John tops box-office at its opening weekend

LOS ANGELES — “Dear John” rode a surprisingly strong wave of support from the fickle but fervent teenage girl audience to the highest ever opening for a movie on Super Bowl weekend, knocking “Avatar” out of the top spot in the process.

“Dear John,” Hollywood’s fifth adaptation of a tearjerker Nicholas Sparks novel, sold $32.4 million worth of tickets in the U.S. and Canada from Friday through Sunday, according to an estimate from distributor Sony Pictures.

I totally love Nicholas Sparks’ “Dear John” and I can’t wait to find the time to watch this movie. I’ve watched some of the earlier films and I hope that this one would stay true to the spirit of the book.

Dear John speaks about loving someone and fighting to have it work but eventually accepting the fact that love is more than just being together but rather it is a choice one makes. Up and above everyday feelings, love is something greater. It is goes beyond being felt but rather is a state, one lives.

If there is a book that you want to pick up this week, it’s Dear John by Nicholas Sparks.
